I could never imagine how this story would unfold. I was surprised but happy that Luc had no other choice to become Jonto, considering the times when women were not entitled to anything really. Other than to become a wife and another’s property. It was so believable too! So well written! It’s like you are right there with them. I felt like I could have been watching a movie. I love these characters. I have just started re reading this. Loved it that much. Thanks Alison for a wonderful book.

I finished this book in two days because I so wanted to see how things turned out for the characters. Engrossing, well-written and has female characters with personality and style who create a life for themselves in spite of the restrictions in their society---A lesson for us all !!

I have loved all of Alison’s books and this one was no exception. Strong female characters trying to live their lives in a world that is not kind to them. The characters are well written and believable. Makes you want to be their friend and go on their adventures with them cheering them on against scheming villains. Another masterpiece Alison! Please keep on writing.

Though historical fiction isn’t typically one of my preferred genres, Ms. Holt is certainly one of my preferred authors, and I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is a story of two women who refuse to play the roles they are expected to, who find themselves and each other along the way. The descriptions of the time and places, whether it is in the town, on a ship, a tropical island, or an estate really made the book come alive, and the secondary characters and their stories added so much flavor. I highly recommend this book.

I loved this book. The characters were all so relatable and lovable I hope we get more out of this world I want to see some of the other women find love as well and I am definitely interested in captain jack.
